Mat. 28:18-20 – “ All authority in heaven and earth has
been given to me . Go ye, therefore and make disciples of all nations
, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son , and of the
Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you
, and surely I am with you always , to the very end of the age.”
...The
words of our Lord as He stated above , are our marching orders !
..Brazil is the country where He sent us.
...We
are honored that you decided to visit our site.
...We hope it will help inform you about
our vision , values , and our involvement in church planting.
Biography:
..Brazil
is the country where He sent us. On September 12, 1959 we arrived in
Belém, Pará in the Amazon Valley. We stayed there until
1974 During those years we started 15 churches, two of which still survive.
..We were invited to move to Goiânia
and, in prayer seeking God’s Will, we moved to this city in 1974.
For a short time we worked with two established churches until the need
arose to help start a new church in Vila Brasília, having been
invited by two Christian preachers to help them. Two other churches
were started during the time we were at Vila Brasília: in Parque
Atheneu and Aruanã II.
A new door of opportunity for the Lord opened up in Jardim Tiradentes,
in the late 1980´s and a church was started there also. We worked
in that community until Paul’s death in1996.
...Magno's family and Shirley continue the
work that was being accomplished by Paul. Our goal is to continue evangelizing,
starting new churches in suburbs that have no New Testament Church.
Who
We Are:
..Christ’s
Mission for Brazil is an entity, legally organized in the U.S. of the
Churches of Christ / Christian Churches working in Brazil with goals
of evangelism, starting churches, nurturing lives, bringing them to
maturity in Christ.
What
We Believe:
..We
believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit . Matthew 3:16-17
..We believe the Bible is God´s Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit
II Peter 1:21
..We believe that baptism is by immersion
only, for the forgiveness of our sins. Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38;
Acts 22:16.
..We believe in the Great Commission of
the Lord, and that every Christian needs to obey, either by going, or
being responsible for those who go. Matthew 28:18-20
..We believe as a rule of faith and practice
that both the Old and New Testament are the Word of God, and that Christians
are under the New Testament today.
..We believe that Christ is the Son of
God, who became flesh, and died for our sins. John 1:1, 14 ; I Corinthians
15:3-4 and was resurrected from the grave on the third day.
Short
History of our Life:
..Paul
and Shirley Lanham, missionaries of the Christian Churches/Churches
of Christ, arrived in Belém (Amazon Valley), Pará, in
September, 1959.
..They met in Bible College, and married in 1956, and were recruited
by Arthur Carter, recruit to Brazil.
In Belém, they worked from 1959-1974, starting fifteen N.T. churches,
two of which survive. Paul taught in the Bible Institute during many
years as well, training students to reach to their own people. They
adopted four Brazilian children: Charles, Ana, Karen and Sharon.
..In 1974 we moved to Goiânia, Goiás,
in Central Brazil. Paul taught many years in the Bible College, also
working with the Extension Course Program (linked to the Bible College)
establishing New Testament Churches in needy areas, and Paul continued
to teach in the Theological Seminary in Brasília during more
than 8 years. When a filial of the Theological Seminary of Brasília
opened in Goiânia, Paul was named as its president. During these
years we started several new churches in the Greater Goiania area. Shirley
translated the material used in classes, formulating questions, etc,
teaching in ladies groups in the churches they started, and raising
their children.
..In 1996 Paul went to be with his Lord.
He is still remembered fondly and faithfully to the present, for his
untiring labor for the Lord.
After Paul´s passing, Shirley, Ana and her husband Magno took
up the challenge laid by Paul, continuing effectively the work he loved
so much, that of starting new churches. Magno has already been ordained
as a minister and continues his studies in Bible College for his degree.
